The ranch operates 200 cow/calf pairs and raises 30 replacement heifers across 1,000 picturesque acres and summer pastures nestled in the Bighorn Mountains. Our team is always on the move, monitoring the health of both our grasslands and livestock.

We run every week June- September. The cattle drives to and from the ranch are specific to a week in July and a week in September. We always aim for specific dates, but sometimes the cows have different plans.

We are a historic, working cattle ranch that invites guests to experience ranch life first hand. When you spend a week at our ranch, you help us move cattle, check and repair fence, doctor cows and horses and any other projects we have going on at that time! Share three meals a day with our family in a cozy setting with delicious home cooked meals, then spend the evenings star gazing from the cabin decks or hot tub. Our June guests may have the chance to camp on our mountain lease and help us repair fence in preparation for when the cows come up. Then from July- September, when our cows are pastured in the mountains, we camp for 2-3 nights a week to manage them. In your off time, do some sight seeing. Buffalo and the surrounding towns are full of history! Visit any of the local museums, check out the adorable downtown or take a drive up Crazy Woman Canyon.

Route details

Arrive at the ranch, where you will be greeted by your hosts. Settle into your accommodations.

Enjoy a welcome lunch featuring local cuisine and join an orientation meeting to discuss the week ahead and safety protocols on the ranch.

In the evening take a leisurely stroll around the ranch to enjoy the scenery and observe the cattle. After that have a delicious dinner under the stars with storytelling around the campfire.

Tour provider's comments

This tour is suitable for all riding levels. Equestrians should have no serious health issues and must be able to get on and off by themselves.

Horse breed: typically Quarter horses, though we do have a draft cross, some mustangs and a Norwegian Fjord.

Tack type: Western.

*June is a better time for beginners as riding around the ranch is easier than the mountain. We recommend guests to bring their own helmets.

While we are on the ranch, guests stay in private (per party) cabins. Each cabin varies in size and capacity. We have 5 cabins:

Coachman is 1 bedroom with a queen and full sized bed and a futon in the living room;
Elkhorns 1 & 2, each have a full bed downstairs and a twin upstairs;
Homestead is a studio with a queen bed;
Rendevous has 3 bedrooms - 1 with a queen, 1 with a full and twin and 1 with a full.

While we are in the mountains we have either a bunk house (about 10 bunk beds - men's and women's side, divided by curtains). We also have tents for guests to use - 4 canvas teepees and regular tents.

Each cabin varies in size and capacity. We have 5 cabins:
