Pampa de Anta Getaway

09:00 Breakfast. Once we finish, we have a farewell ceremony by the local people with songs and dances.

10:00 We journey to a privileged vantage point that offers a breathtaking view of the renowned Inca agricultural laboratory known as "Moray" and the stunning Sacred Valley of the Incas. From this viewpoint, we can also witness the majestic snow-capped peaks and the graceful flight of eagles. The initial part of our ride is a gentle descent for approximately twenty minutes, followed by a crossing of a small ravine. We then begin ascending towards the next summit, surrounded by a lush eucalyptus forest and fields of potatoes.

13:00 Lunch in the open field and in the shadow of eucalyptus trees.

14:00 We reach the highest point of today's ride and commence our descent towards the community of Chaquepay, which boasts unique and picturesque surroundings. Along the way, we pass through the significant town center of Huarocondo, which showcases a strong Spanish influence. A notable manifestation of this influence is its cathedral church, constructed in the early 16th century. From Huarocondo, we continue our journey to the town of Compone, riding the vast expanse of the Pampa de Anta plain.

17:00 We arrive at the Compone lodge.

18:30 Dinner and overnight.

09:00 Breakfast.

10:00 After enjoying a satisfying breakfast, we resume our journey at an altitude of 3,334 meters above sea level. Our trail leads us through the remains of an old lagoon that is now mostly dry. Guided by a trail used by woodcutters, we ascend to the highest point of a prominent and significant hill in the region. At this peak, we discover an ancient cemetery belonging to the per Inka culture known as "K'illke." Unfortunately, this area has been heavily affected by looters, resulting in the desecration of tombs and the scattering of K'illke ceramic artifacts across the grassy landscape. Additionally, we may come across an abandoned puma den. The elevation of this mountain offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the vast Pampa de Anta and extends even further to include the snow-capped peaks of Salkantay, Chicón and Pitusitay. Finally, after completing our ride, we arrive at our eagerly anticipated destination known as "Yuraq Qaqa," which translates to "The Rocky Mountain"

13:00 Lunch.

14:00 The central part of this stunning rocky region features a circular enclosure formed by stone cliffs, resembling a large pen. In the past, this structure was utilized by thieves to conceal the cattle they had stolen from members of the Andean community. Due to its sheltered location, this area is protected from rain and wind, creating a microclimate that is perfect for the growth of a unique forested area consisting of native plants. This dense vegetation serves as excellent camouflage for the hideout of these thieves. Moreover, this vegetation supports a diverse ecosystem, making it possible to frequently observe white-tailed deer, rock squirrels, hawks and eagles. On rare occasions, one may even catch a glimpse of the majestic "Condor," which ventures out of the Apurimac canyon in search of food.

15:00 We ride back to the lodge along another very picturesque trail. We see many herds of sheep, horses, goats and alpacas as we pass.

16:30 We arrive at the lodge.

17:00 Bonfire.

18:30 Dinner and overnight.

09:00 Breakfast.

10:00 We cross the plain for the second time but in a different direction, towards the town of Markjo, Huerta and its magnificent eucalyptus forest, where we expect to have our last lunch.

13:00 Lunch.

14:00 We reach Mahuaypampa within a few minutes. This town greets us with its potato fields and its name in Spanish, meaning "early potato," suggests that it might have been the first place where potatoes were cultivated due to its close proximity to Moray, the site of potato domestication. Maras, with its stone gates, welcomes us with its colonial streets. Each stone portal is adorned with heraldic shields from colonial times, showcasing the significance of this place from an administrative standpoint. As we continue our descent towards the valley floor, we catch a final glimpse of the magnificent Sacred Valley of the Incas from a viewpoint situated just in front of Yanahuara.

17:30 We arrive at the рacienda and end our ride.
