The tour begins with our team picking you up from either Cusco or Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will coordinate with you beforehand for the horse riding journey to Machu Picchu.
Option 1: Cusco - Killarumiyuq - Chillipahua
Your journey will begin with a transfer from Cusco to the starting point of your horseback riding adventure. Along the way, you'll make a stop at the sacred Inca Killarumiyuc, also known as the Moonstone sanctuary, which was an ancient temple dedicated to the deity of femininity. This site is not only an impressive architectural feat, but it also includes areas for cultivation systems and was considered a sacred area for the people of the Andes who practiced moon worship. After exploring this agricultural experimental center, you'll continue on to the village of Huarocondo, which sits at an elevation of 3,331 meters above sea level. From there, you'll be driven for 25 minutes to Paropiso, where your horseback riding adventure will truly begin.
Option 2: Sacred Valley - Ñaupa Iglesia - Chillipahua
Your adventure will start with a private transfer from the Sacred Valley of the Incas. After a short 25-minute journey, you'll have the opportunity to explore the spiritual Inca Ñaupa Iglesia, an ancient church that houses the Chakana, an Andean Inca cross. Following your visit to this sacred site, you'll continue on to Llama Pintayoq, also known as Llama painted in the Quechua language, where you can view pre-Inca paintings on the rock. From there, you'll travel up the valley for another 25 minutes until you reach the starting point of your horseback riding trek. Here, you'll meet the team and begin your journey on horseback.
Starting point: Your journey to Machu Picchu on horseback will begin by following a broad path to the north, situated above the west bank of the Huarocondo river. Along the way, you will be able to take in the stunning scenery of valleys, mountains, ancient ruins and the remarkable Inca city of Wat'a. This important pre-Inca fortress sits atop a hill at an elevation of 3,855 meters and is well-known for its strategic location. After exploring the city, you will descend for half an hour to reach the lunch spot before continuing on to Chillipahua village where you will spend the night.
