7-Day Horseback Adventure: Wildlife Tracking and Conservation Expedition

Saddle your own horse and gain hands-on experience from our guides on how to pack the pack horses before we set off to camp. Start your day with breakfast at the ranch, where you can set your intentions during our morning review.

As we journey through Douglas fir and Lodgepole pine forests, you will climb breathtaking mountain passes and ride through serene valleys, stopping for lunch in a meadow filled with wildflowers. Connect with nature by collecting Grizzly bear hair from rub trees, drinking fresh water from the creeks, and scouting for wildlife.

Upon arrival at our rustic mountain camp, settle in by helping with camp chores such as carrying water from the creek, learning to split firewood and build a fire, and unpacking the horses. Afterward, ride your horse to their grazing meadows and take a scenic hike back to camp through unspoiled wilderness. 

Engage in conservation efforts by using our Range Record Grazing Sheet to identify various grazes and wildflowers. Participate in preparing dinner at camp, cooking over the campfire, and roasting marshmallows. Finally, spend the night in our rustic prospector wall tents, where you can listen to the sounds of nature and gaze at the stars above.

As the sun rises, you will set off with your guides to retrieve the horses from the staking meadows. After saddling your own horse, you will ride back to camp. Once there, you can help prepare breakfast and pack lunches while enjoying a meal.

After breakfast, you will join a day ride from camp, savoring lunch amidst breathtaking views. You will also contribute to conservation efforts by scouting for wildlife, documenting every animal sighted in our Wildlife Sightings Form. You will learn about the endangered Whitebark Pine Trees as well as collect Grizzly bear hair from rub trees for DNA analysis.

Throughout the day, you will connect with nature by drinking from the creek, discovering various plants and bonding with your horse. At the end of the day, you will return to camp, lead the horses back to the staking meadows, stake and hobble them, and enjoy an evening hike back to camp.

In the evening, you will assist in cooking dinner over the campfire and roasting marshmallows. Finally, you will settle down for the night in our rustic prospector wall tents, listening to the soothing sounds of nature and counting the stars above.

Throughout the day, immerse yourself in nature by sipping from the creek, discovering local flora, and strengthening your bond with your horse. As the sun sets, you will return to camp, lead the horses back, and secure them for the night.

In the evening, you will assist in cooking dinner over the campfire and indulge in roasted marshmallows. Finally, you will unwind in rustic prospector wall tents, surrounded by the sounds of nature and the beauty of the starry sky.

At sunrise, you will take on a hike with your guides to gather your horses from the staking meadows. After saddling your horse, you will ride back to camp. Once there, you can assist in cooking breakfast and preparing packed lunches while enjoying your meal and setting your intentions during our morning review.

After breakfast, we will pack up the camp and clean the area, helping to load the horses before we set off. As we ride back to the ranch, you will have the opportunity to explore stunning landscapes, including valleys and towering ridge-lines.

We will stop for lunch on a mountaintop or in a serene alpine meadow before arriving at the ranch for dinner. After dinner, you can unwind by the fireplace or step onto the deck to enjoy spectacular star-gazing. You will spend the night in comfortable ranch accommodations.

Take some time to fill in your Wilderness Journal, reflecting on your journey, its impact on you, and the lessons you plan to incorporate into your daily life.

Enjoy a farewell lunch at the ranch, where we will review your Wilderness Journal and present certificates to celebrate your transformations throughout the trip. Finally, depart for home or Vancouver, arriving in the evening.
