5-Day Bear Tracking and Conservation Expedition

Saddle your own horse and receive hands-on guidance from our experts on how to pack the pack horses before we set off to camp. Begin your day with breakfast at the ranch, followed by a morning review where you can set your intentions for the journey ahead.

As we ride through the enchanting Douglas fir and Lodgepole pine forests, you will tackle breathtaking mountain passes and glide through serene valleys, stopping for lunch amidst a meadow filled with wildflowers.

Upon arriving at our rustic mountain camp, you will settle in by participating in camp chores, such as hauling water from the creek, learning how to split firewood and start a fire, and unpacking the horses. Afterward, ride the horses to their grazing meadows, and enjoy a scenic hike back to camp through pristine wilderness. The meadows are just a short 15-20 minute trek from camp, where you will also learn how to stake and hobble your horse for the night. Engage in conservation efforts by using our Range Record Grazing Sheet to identify various grazes and wildflowers.

Help prepare dinner over the campfire and indulge in roasting marshmallows. Spend the night in our rustic prospector wall tents, falling asleep to the soothing sounds of nature and counting the stars above.

As the sun rises, you will set out with your guides to gather the horses from the staking meadows. After saddling your own horse, you will ride back to camp. Once there, you will assist in preparing breakfast and packing lunches.

Throughout the day, you will embark on a ride from camp to prime locations for tracking bears, stopping to enjoy lunch with stunning views along the way. You will also play an important role in conservation efforts by scouting for wildlife and documenting every animal sighted on our Wildlife Sightings Form. You will learn about the endangered Whitebark Pine Trees and assess their population's health, as well as collect Grizzly bear hair from rub trees for DNA analysis.

Along the way enjoy drinking from the creek, discovering various plants, and bonding with your horse. As the day winds down, you will return to the camp, leading the horses back to the staking meadows to stake and hobble them before enjoying an evening hike.

In the cam you will help prepare dinner over the campfire and roast marshmallows. You will spend the night in our rustic prospector wall tents, falling asleep to the sounds of nature and counting the stars above.

As the sun rises, your adventure begins with a hike alongside your guides to retrieve the horses from the staking meadows. Once there, you will saddle your own horse for the ride back to camp. After arriving, lend a hand in cooking breakfast and preparing packed lunches. 

Once breakfast is finished, help with packing up camp and cleaning, as well as getting the horses ready for the next leg of the journey. You will then have the opportunity to explore breathtaking landscapes, including valleys and towering ridgelines, as we ride back to the ranch.

Lunch will be enjoyed atop a mountain or in a serene alpine meadow, offering a perfect pause in the day. Upon arrival at the ranch, gather for dinner and take a moment to reflect on your day's accomplishments and express gratitude. Afterward, unwind by the fireplace or step out onto the deck for an incredible stargazing experience. You will spend the night in the cozy accommodations of the ranch.

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the ranch, followed by a morning session dedicated to setting your intentions for the day. You will then participate in bareback horse riding lessons, where you can hone your skills. Afterward, enjoy target shooting instruction and practice to further enhance your experience.

Take some time to reflect on your journey in the Wilderness Journal, considering the impact of your experiences and the lessons you plan to incorporate into your daily life.

Conclude your adventure with a farewell lunch at the ranch, where you will review your Wilderness Journal and receive a certificate to celebrate the personal transformations you have achieved during your trip. Finally, depart for home or Vancouver, with an expected evening arrival.
