5-Day Horseback Adventure: Wildlife Tracking Trip

Saddle up your own horse and get hands-on experience from our guides on how to pack the pack horses before we set off to camp. Start your day with breakfast at the ranch and take a moment to set your intentions during our morning review.

As we journey through Douglas fir and Lodgepole pine forests, you will climb breathtaking mountain passes and ride through serene valleys, pausing for lunch in a beautiful wildflower meadow. Connect with nature by collecting Grizzly bear hair from rub trees, sipping fresh water from the creeks, and watching for wildlife along the way.

Upon reaching our rustic mountain camp, settle in by participating in camp chores such as fetching water from the creek, learning to split firewood and build a fire, and unpacking the horses. After riding the horses to their grazing meadows, enjoy a scenic hike back to camp through untouched wilderness. The meadows are just 15-20 minutes from camp, where you will learn how to stake and hobble your horse for the night. Engage in conservation by using our Range Record Grazing Sheet to identify different grazes and wildflowers.

In the evening, help prepare dinner over the campfire and roast marshmallows. Finally, spend the night in our rustic prospector wall tents, listening to the soothing sounds of nature and counting the stars above.

As the sun rises, your adventure begins with a guided hike to retrieve your horses from the staking meadows. After saddling your own horse, you will ride back to camp. Once there, you will pitch in to help prepare breakfast and pack lunches, all while enjoying a meal and setting your intentions during a morning review.

The day continues with a scenic ride from camp, where you will take in breathtaking views and enjoy lunch along the way. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to conservation efforts by scouting for wildlife and documenting every animal sighting in our Wildlife Sightings Form. 

Throughout the day, connect with nature by sipping water from the creek, exploring different plants, and bonding with your horse. After a fulfilling day, you will return to camp, bring the horses back to the staking meadows, and stake and hobble them before joining an evening hike back to camp.

Once at camp, you will assist in preparing dinner over the campfire and enjoy roasting marshmallows. As you gather around to reflect on the day’s successes, you will settle in for the night in rustic prospector wall tents, listening to the soothing sounds of nature and counting the stars overhead.

As the sun rises, join your guides for a hike to retrieve the horses from the staking meadows. Once back at camp, saddle your own horse and ride back. Afterward, lend a hand in cooking breakfast and preparing pack lunches while enjoying your meal and setting your intentions during our morning review.

Once breakfast is finished, help pack up the camp and clean up before we get the horses ready to leave. As we ride back to the ranch, take in the stunning landscapes, including valleys and towering ridgelines. Enjoy lunch atop a mountain or in a picturesque alpine meadow.

Upon arrival at the ranch, gather for dinner and reflect on the day's accomplishments during our evening review. Afterward, unwind by the fireplace or step out onto the deck for some spectacular stargazing. You will spend the night in the ranch accommodations.

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the ranch, followed by a morning session to set your intentions. Engage in bareback horse riding lessons, then take aim with some target shooting instruction and practice. You will also have the opportunity to fill in your Wilderness Journal, reflecting on your journey, the impact it had on you, and the lessons you plan to incorporate into your daily life.

Conclude your experience with a farewell lunch at the ranch, where you will review your Wilderness Journal and receive a certificate to commemorate your transformations throughout the trip. Afterward, depart for home or Vancouver, with your arrival scheduled for the evening.
