The Sierras de Rocha are notable for being the highest elevations in Uruguay, ranging from 200 to 513 meters above sea level. These areas primarily consist of rugged, rocky terrain with a dense growth of Indigenous Woodland.
The horseback riding tours are conducted at estancia Santa Rita featuring 300 hectares of paddocks. The expansive landscape offers visitors a sense of vastness, with endless horizons occasionally broken by the peaks of the sierras.
The terrain is rough and adorned with vibrant native vegetation, streams, valleys, and breathtaking views of the Los Cuervos and El Moro hills. Participants can also enjoy birdwatching and spot various native wildlife, including Guazubirá deer, mulitas (seven-banded armadillos), grey foxes, wild cats, rheas, capybaras, lizards, and more.
The trip is led by a baqueano or local guide who is familiar with the hidden gems of this pristine ecosystem.
