Uruguay, renowned for its gaucho heritage and vast oceanfront, is perfect for horseback riding! Explore the allure of this tranquil South American treasure by riding through the stunning Rocha region on exceptional horses with our team.

We'll journey through lush pastures, navigate challenging swamps, ride in iconic forests and ascend mountains; uncover native woodlands and circle the Laguna de Castillos, arriving at camp at day’s end where you can relax in a hammock with breathtaking views.

During this ride, you'll have the chance to observe a diverse array of captivating wildlife as we pass through the Bañados del Este Reserve (a UNESCO site), traveling from the Atlantic Coast to the Sierras del Castillos, then descending to the Laguna de Castillos with its Ombúes Forest before returning to the coast.

Route details

We meet at our center, our Ecolodge. We will meet our horses and pack our luggage and saddlebags. After a brief preparatory talk, we mount up and begin the ride.

We begin by warming up in the forest, then continue at an active pace along the extensive beach that takes us to Aguas Dulces. We ride along different troop paths and cattle fields with different views of the palm groves. Depending on the time of year we can cross flooded areas, which make for even more adventure!

At midday we look for the best place for a picnic break. In the afternoon we start to climb the mountain range, appreciating the beauty of a well-preserved native forest, with different species of birds (chirrinche, blue cardinal, mountain turkey, white woodpecker...).

We arrive at Cerro de los Rocha, a place from where you can contemplate a beautiful view of Laguna de Castillos, Laguna Negra and its palm groves.

After a nice hot shower, we enjoyed the campfire with grilled food, in a setting of pure nature.
