In the northern region of Mongolia there are taiga ecosystems characterized by dense forests primarily consisting of larch trees. These forests are interspersed with open valleys resembling polar tundra. Unlike the steppe grasslands found in much of Mongolia, this area belongs to the Siberian permafrost ecosystem. Due to its remote and inaccessible location, it is home to the most pristine and sparsely populated lands in the entire country.
The culture of the reindeer herders here is equally authentic, with only a few hundred individuals living in teepees and tending to their reindeer in the taiga forest and alpine meadows. This presents a unique opportunity to encounter a genuine shaman, try reindeer milk and experience a reindeer ride.
