Once, steppe ecosystems covered 25% of the Earth's land area, but now many regions have been largely transformed for agriculture. The Mongolian steppes are the only ones that remain intact. The high altitude of Mongolia results in exceptionally clear air and starry nights throughout the year, providing a breathtaking visual experience of emptiness and vastness as one rides into the expansive Mongolian landscape. The silent, treeless steppe stretches endlessly, with no fences in sight and minimal signs of human presence aside from the nomads and their livestock. This journey will take us through diverse habitats, with sporadic water sources supporting wildlife. While wolves can often be heard during the summer, they are rarely seen. We will ride through rugged terrain, with all our gear transported by a support vehicle, and a ger (Mongolian yurt) set up to serve as our mobile dining facility.
