Hernando is not just your guide; he is the owner of the company and he is a passionate advanced horse rider. Hernando has a professional degree in Business Administration from “Los Andes University” in Bogotá, with advanced studies in Corporate Finance at Golden Gate University in San Francisco, California. He worked for over 10 years in the financial sector and he currently owns a corporate finance advisory company and Rivas Riding Colombia ecotourism company. All his life, Hernando´s passions have been horse riding and hiking. During college, he created the Mountain Group of the University and served as president, hike organizer, and mountain guide. After college, Hernando created horse riding and mountain trekking groups. For more than 12 years, he has organized and participated as a mountain guide and horse riding leader. He always focused his holidays abroad on ecotourism activities, hiking, and riding to natural sites and typical villages in Spain, Italy, France, the USA, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Costa Rica. Hernando’s knowledge and experience allow him to structure a private ecotourism experience that his clients will always remember. We have relationships with 3 hotels in Villa de Leyva. All are outside of the town. They are located in the municipality of Villa de Leyva (in the department of Boyacá) to 160 km from Bogotá, and it takes between 3-4 hours by car from Bogota. Villa de Leyva Region is located at 2300 meters above sea level, with temperatures between 18 and 24 centigrade during the day, normally dry weather, with rainy weather on some days.

We had a fantastic time riding through the stunning mountains near Villa de Leyva. The horses were calm and friendly, which made us feel safe throughout the entire tour. As horse owners ourselves, we appreciated how well the horses were cared for. Hernando was consistently informative and helpful. We enjoyed staying in a lovely hotel, indulging in delicious food, and truly felt at home. Hernando was attentive to our needs, making any necessary adjustments along the way. We highly recommend Hernando, and of course, José, who was always there at the back to assist whenever needed! Thank you for an amazing experience, and we look forward to riding together again soon!

I cannot recommend this tour highly enough! We cherished every moment and only wish we could have stayed longer. Hernando is an absolutely wonderful person and an exceptional tour guide; it was a joy to explore Colombia with him. He planned a fantastic private tour that included everything we wanted to see and do, providing us with countless unique and authentic experiences. The horses were exceptionally well cared for and clearly adored by their loving owners. They were sure-footed and calm throughout the tour, and I felt very safe and connected to my amazing steed. The accommodations were incredibly hospitable; it felt like we were staying with friends, sharing truly beautiful and authentic meals together. Our tour was not just about horseback riding and breathtaking scenery; we also enjoyed authentic experiences like riding through small towns, meeting locals over a beer, swimming by a lovely cascade, celebrating my birthday with a surprise chocolate cake, playing Tejo, and learning how local ceramics and crafts are made. We shared stories with our wonderful hosts, which added to the experience. I also want to mention that we had plans in Bogotá after the tour, and Hernando not only connected us with several people to help arrange more unique experiences during our time in Colombia but also ensured we were transported to our next adventure. All this to say, I had never been to Colombia before, and I will always be incredibly grateful that this was the horseback riding tour I chose. It was my first experience right after landing, and it made for a perfect way to celebrate my 30th birthday! Thank you, Hernando. I look forward to riding together again in the near future!

When my friend suggested we go horseback riding, I was skeptical at first. Mainly because I had ridden horses many times and in many different countries, and initially, it didn’t seem that different from my past experiences. However, this was an experience unlike any other. First, it wasn’t a boring trail where the horses just follow one another. No, this was real horseback riding in the Colombian countryside. The views were breathtaking, and we even rode up mountainous terrains! Second, the horses gallop a little differently, so it’s a new (and FUN) experience in that aspect as well. Finally, because the tour is more intimate, you really get to enjoy it at your own pace. It’s like a personal horseback riding adventure. Bonus: You will get some beautiful photos and videos for social media if that’s your thing. If you are in Bogotá and want to experience a different side of Colombia, then book this tour! Our host, Hernando, was amazing. He was knowledgeable, fun, and his passion makes the tour a must-do. I would totally do this again!
