Owner and a professional safari guide. I was born and raised in Botswana and am a fifth-generation resident of Ghanzi. My family came to Ghanzi in 1898 during the Dorsland Trek from South Africa. I grew up on a cattle ranch where I shared a wonderful, free childhood in nature together with the San (Bushman) children. After finishing school, I studied travel and tourism in South Africa and later obtained my professional safari guide license in Botswana in 1996. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with several well-known safari operators in Southern Africa. Through these experiences I have developed a deep appreciation for the culture, wildlife, and landscapes of this region. I enjoy sharing a little of this knowledge with our guests and helping them experience the beauty of the Kalahari, including the remarkable relationship between nature and the San people, who are among the oldest living cultures in the world. I have always felt a close connection with the San and share their love for the natural environment. Because of this long-standing relationship, I am often able to introduce our guests to members of the local community, who are usually happy to share something about their traditions and daily life. I speak Naro, one of the Bushman languages sometimes recognised by its distinctive clicking sounds, and it has helped build a strong bond with the local people over the years. My husband, Tiaan, helps manage our lodge with me. Although he is trained as an industrial engineer, he now applies his skills here at the lodge. Together we have two daughters, Anri and Nelien, who also speak Naro. As a family, together with our Bushman friends and colleagues, we look forward to welcoming you to our lodge and sharing a little of this special place with you.
