Kalahari Experience

The day begins early with breakfast at 6:30 AM, preparing you for your first exploration of the Kalahari’s ancient cultural heritage.

After breakfast, you will go on a San Bushman walk, an extraordinary introduction to the land through the wisdom of one of the world’s oldest living cultures. During this experience, the San guides share essential safety knowledge about living alongside Kalahari wildlife, including predators and the white rhinoceros.

You will learn how to track animals, identify edible plants, locate water in the desert environment, and witness traditional fire-making techniques. This immersive experience provides invaluable insight into how humans and nature have coexisted in this environment for thousands of years.

At 12 PM, return to the lodge for lunch, followed by a short rest.

In the afternoon, your first horse riding safari begins. Riding through the open Kalahari grasslands offers a unique perspective of the wildlife as you move quietly across the landscape. After returning to the lodge, enjoy the daily cake and tea pause, a relaxing moment to reflect on the day’s discoveries.

Dinner is served at 7 pm.

After breakfast the focus shifts fully to the core experience of your stay: horse riding safaris across the Kalahari.

The morning ride lasts approximately four hours, taking you across sweeping grasslands where herds of gemsbok, springbok, and other wildlife roam freely. Riding on horseback allows for remarkable proximity to animals who often accept horses as part of the natural environment.

Return to the lodge for lunch at 12 PM, followed by a well-deserved rest during the warmest hours of the day.

In the afternoon, enjoy the traditional cake and tea pause before heading out for your two-hour evening ride. The golden light of late afternoon transforms the landscape and provides wonderful opportunities to observe wildlife activity as temperatures cool.

Dinner brings another relaxed evening at the lodge.

Begin the day with breakfast, followed by a morning horse riding safari (approximately four hours) through diverse Kalahari terrain. Your guides will share insights into the ecosystem and the delicate balance that sustains wildlife in this semi-desert environment.

After returning for lunch the afternoon offers a special conservation experience: white rhino tracking. Accompanied by experienced guides, you will follow tracks and signs across the landscape in search of these magnificent animals, learning about the conservation efforts that help protect them from poaching and habitat loss.

Following the activity, enjoy the daily cake and tea pause before setting out on a two-hour evening ride, when the soft Kalahari light paints the grasslands in warm tones.

Dinner is served at 7 pm, closing a day that blends adventure with meaningful conservation awareness.

After breakfast depart for another four-hour morning horse riding safari, exploring new areas of the reserve and increasing the chances of encountering diverse wildlife across the plains.

Return for lunch and some relaxation at the lodge, perhaps beside the pool overlooking the waterhole where animals often come to drink.

In the afternoon, learn about the lodge’s Predator Protection Project, a campaign led by our team dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of lions, leopards, and especially the rare African wild dogs. Their passion for wildlife conservation adds a deeper layer of meaning to the safari experience.

Following the cake and tea pause, you will head out for your evening horse riding safari, gliding across the quiet grasslands as the day cools.

Dinner concludes another memorable day in the Kalahari.

Enjoy breakfast and then saddle up for another four-hour morning horse riding safari. By now you will feel increasingly confident in the saddle as you explore further reaches of the reserve and deepen your connection with both horse and landscape.

After lunch the afternoon focuses on a deeper Bushman cultural experience guided by Neeltjie, whose knowledge of the San culture is extraordinary. Fluent in Naro, the language of the Bushmen, she offers rare insight into their traditions, philosophy, and daily life.

You may experience aspects of tool-making, storytelling, traditional games, and village life, gaining a profound understanding of a culture that has lived in harmony with this environment for millennia.

Following the afternoon cake and tea pause, embark on your final two-hour evening horse ride, savoring the last sunset ride across the Kalahari plains.

Dinner provides a warm farewell evening with your hosts and guides.

Your final morning begins with breakfast, allowing time to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the lodge one last time while overlooking the waterhole.

After breakfast, it is time to depart from the Lodge, carrying with you unforgettable memories of horse riding across the Kalahari, encounters with remarkable wildlife, and meaningful connections with the San culture and the passionate team who made your stay so special.
