National Park Tara Ride

On the first day of our riding tour, we start after breakfast and travel from Taor to Kostojevići. Along the way, we pass through fields of raspberries, meadows filled with aromatic herbs and thick forests. The challenging uphill trails offer stunning panoramic views that seem to transcend time and space. The untamed beauty of nature evokes a distinct sensation and imbues a sense of weightlessness in our bodies.

Overnight: in Kostojevići.

Riding: 6-8 hours.

After a restful night at a charming farm and enjoying a satisfying breakfast, we continue our journey towards Kostojevići, passing through Bajina Bašta. Our route takes us alongside the Drina River, a significant waterway with a rich historical background. Throughout history, the Drina has served as a dividing line between various cultures and empires, such as the Illyrians and Celts, Rome and Byzantium and the Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman empires. As we ride alongside this timeless river, its tranquil energy combined with the peacefulness of our horses allows our souls to unwind and find serenity.

Overnight: in Bajina Bašta.

We arrive at Tara National Park, renowned for its enchanting forests filled with unique conifer species like the Serbian spruce and snake-skin pine. The park is also home to a diverse range of wildlife, including the majestic eagle owl, golden eagle, wolf, brown bear, lynx, griffon vulture, otters and Martens. Additionally, Tara mountain holds significant archaeological importance as it is recognized as the oldest site for metalworking, dating back to 3,600 years BC. After an adventurous ride through prehistoric sites and untamed landscapes, we will take a refreshing break at Lake Zaovine, where you can fully immerse yourself in the untamed beauty of nature. Don't forget to pack appropriate swimwear for this experience.

Riding: 6-8 hours.

We continue our journey through Tara National Park, where the enchanting scents and sounds of the pine forests captivate us. Along the way, we come across humble mountain huts constructed by a handful of individuals using basic tools. Our encounters are not limited to old structures, as we also meet the local highlanders. Initially appearing reserved and distant, they gradually warm up to us, revealing the diverse and fascinating aspects of their personalities.

We say goodbye to Tara National Park and make our way back to Taor through Seča Reka. During this part of our journey, we are treated to breathtaking vistas of numerous valleys and mountains in the distance. On clear days, we are even able to catch a glimpse of Durmitor, the tallest mountain in Montenegro and a national park that is part of the southern region of the Dinaric Alps.

Overnight: in Seča Reka.

After passing through Seča Reka, our next destination is the Taor water springs. These springs are located in a region with numerous valleys and mountains, providing stunning views. The water that flows from the springs is warm in winter and cool in summer, making it a refreshing treat on hot days. In the past, there were many water mills along these sources, but most have disappeared over time. However, there is still a small watermill that gives us a glimpse into the past. Here, we can enjoy freshly prepared food and experience the traditional highland lifestyle. After visiting the miller, we continue to the initial farm where we can indulge in a dinner accompanied by local rakija, sharing our thoughts and experiences.
