I grew up in Alcantarilha-Algarve and Lisbon City. I always dreamed of moving to the Alentejo and live closer to nature. I studied Management of Computer Networks and later Geography at the University of Coimbra. Before moving to Midões I worked in Lisbon in the area of Information Technology. Then I met Liesje and everything changed… Together we built a unique holiday farm with horse riding holidays and Holiday homes surrounded by nature, a little paradise in central Portugal. With heart and soul Liesje and I take care of the farm and everything that is included. I am the guide for the horse riding hacks and your teacher if you would like to learn more about horses and their behavior. I will teach you how you can ride in a horse friendly way, together with your horse. For all the other activities Liesje and I work together with colleagues in the neighborhood.

Route details

Day 1
Arrival

At 17:00, we arrive at the Quinta. The farmer Antonio Pereira resided here with his family on this fertile land spanning approximately three hectares. They maintained a large flock of sheep, attracting traders from afar seeking to purchase sheep and goats.

Following Antonio passing, the farm fell into disrepair, becoming overgrown with blackberry bushes, with only half of the fields cultivated and dried out. The fruit trees grew wild, some perished. This was the condition in which we encountered this Quinta in 1998: the side building's roof had collapsed, wine casks turned to vinegar, the house left untouched with furniture covered in a 12-year-old layer of dust. Today, the transformation is remarkable.

In the evening, we have the option to help feed the horses if we'd like. Afterwards, we head to the lovely village for dinner.

I spent time here, both solo for a month and with my family, and it's perfect for either kind of trip. It's the sort of place that will draw you back again and again. We've already booked another stay! This is the ideal place for anyone who loves being surrounded by animals and nature. If you're seeking a deeper connection to the natural world, there's no better place. You experience the best of both worlds - a rustic charm alongside modern comfort and amenities. The accommodations are fully equipped with everything you could need. Everything is perfectly clean and of high quality. Liesje and João, the hosts, are welcoming and amiable, always available when you need them, yet never intrusive. João is fantastic with kids, tailoring riding lessons to their individual needs. It's never boring here, with many things to do within just 30 minutes of the farm - walks, exploration of old schist villages, Roman ruins and delicious food. A dream for those who love nature and history!! And there're many activities on the property. My kids never wanted to leave because of the pool, wide grassy loans for play, swings and the company of friendly dogs, horses and chickens. You won't regret choosing to stay here. I recommend staying for at least a few nights; otherwise, you'll leave feeling like your stay was too short.
