Eagle Eye Trail

You are provided with breakfast ingredients to make your own breakfast at a convenient time and location. Today's activities will set the tone for the rest of the week. At 10:00 (usually), you will be picked up and driven to the stables on the other side of Castro Laboreiro, which is about a 10-minute drive away. After matching horses with riders, you will embark on your first ride through the scenic trails of Peneda Mountain.

Following your ride, you typically clean the horses and return them to their pastures before heading by car to enjoy lunch in the gardens of the guest house. Later, you will visit the visitor center of the National Park to learn more about the area where you will be riding.

Dinner and overnight accommodations will be at our Country House. The day's riding activities typically last about 4 hours.

Today you will journey close to the eastern border of Portugal near Spain, where you may encounter herds of wild Garrano horses. The main goal of the ride is to reach the impressive megalithic monuments, the largest necropolis of its kind in the Iberian Peninsula.

Enjoy lunch in the mountains before returning to the riding center, possibly experiencing some long canters along the way. Additionally, you can choose to participate in a meditation class at our Country House.

End the day with dinner and stay overnight at our Country House after approximately 6 hours of riding.

Today, we will start the day with a morning ride lasting around 3 hours in the mountains, where we can pick up the pace a bit. Afterward, we will drive to have lunch at the gardens of the Guest House.

In the afternoon, we will take a break from riding and explore the historic village of Melgaço, known for its ancient churches and castle. On the way, we will make a stop at the Alvarinho Centre to taste the delicious local white wine, Alvarinho. This wine is a well-known Portuguese variety and is highly regarded in the Tart Wine Region for its exceptional quality.

We will end the day with dinner and stay overnight at our Country House after another 3-hour riding session.

Today, you will depart from the mountains and journey towards the Monteiro hills, heading towards the winter valley. Be sure to bring your camera as the striking landscape featuring granite rocks will be a memorable sight. You will pass through historic villages rich in culture and customs. Lunch will be enjoyed in the mountains.

Following lunch, you will ride back on horseback along an old transhumance route that farmers used to move their livestock between seasonal pastures and Spain.

The day will conclude with dinner and an overnight stay at our Country House after approximately 5 hours of riding.

This morning, we will have a leisurely visit to the medieval Castro Laboreiro Castle and the Peneda pilgrimage sanctuary and village, without riding. The sanctuary, a magnificent structure constructed in the 18th century, is nestled in the mountains.

We will enjoy lunch at the guest house's gardens. In the late afternoon, we will prepare the horses for a sunset ride in search of the wild Garrano horses. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to participate in a yoga relaxation class at the Country House.

The day will conclude with dinner and overnight stay at the Country House after about 3 hours of riding.

The last day of the journey involves a ride to the stunning Valley of the Wolves, known for its diverse wildlife and rare animal sightings. Here, you may have the chance to see some of the finest herds of wild Garrano horses in the area. 

A picnic lunch will be enjoyed in the mountains before returning for a farewell dinner and overnight stay at the Country House. The riding time for this day is approximately 5 hours.

After breakfast you are transferred to the airport.
