09:00 Breakfast.
10:00 Our journey commence at an altitude of 3,334 meters above sea level, where the remnants of a former lagoon, now nearly completely dry, can be found. We are guided by a path used by woodcutters, leading us to the summit of one of the most significant and elevated hills in the region. At its highest point lies an ancient cemetery belonging to the per Inka culture known as "K'illke." Unfortunately, this area has been greatly affected by the destructive actions of looters, resulting in a vast number of scattered K'illke ceramic artifacts amidst the grasslands, looted tombs and an abandoned puma den.
The elevation of this mountain provides us with a breathtaking panoramic view that encompasses the majority of Pampa de Anta and extends even further to the snow-capped peaks of Salkantay, Chicón and Pitusitay.
Upon completing our ride, we finally reach our eagerly anticipated destination, "Yuraq Qaqa" or The Rocky Mountain.
13:00 Lunch.
14:00 The central part of this stunning rocky region features a circular enclosure surrounded by stone cliffs, resembling a large pen. In the past, this formation served as a hiding place for thieves who would steal cattle from the local Andean community. The natural barriers provided protection from rain and wind, creating a microclimate that supported the growth of a unique forested area with native plants, effectively concealing the rustlers' hideout. This vegetation also fosters a diverse ecosystem, allowing for sightings of various animals such as white-tailed deer, vizcachas, hawks and eagles. On rare occasions, the majestic "Condor," the king of the skies, can be spotted as it ventures out of the Apurimac canyon in search of food.
15:00 We ride back to the lodge along another picturesque route, spotting many herds of sheep, horses, goats and alpacas as we pass.
16:30 Arrival at the lodge.
17:00 Bonfire.
18:30 Dinner and overnight.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Overnight: at Lodge in Compone.
