The old gold trails don’t feel silent here — they seem to watch from the riverbanks, from weathered buildings, from the marks left in the land. Riding through Ben Lomond Station, you follow the same valleys where miners once searched for gold and entire settlements rose almost overnight.
Each day brings around five hours in the saddle, moving through the private landscapes of Ben Lomond Station near Queenstown. You ride beside the river, pass old gold claims and historic buildings, then climb into mountain ranges where lunch is taken with wide, open views. The trail leads to places like Ben Lomond Lodge, the back hut, high peaks, and finally back toward Moke Lake by a different river route. Along the way, the landscape still carries signs of the gold rush — wild oregano, blackberries, gooseberries, goats, and the old workings left behind.
Your luggage is transported by 4WD, horses are prepared for the ride, and the route finishes with a taxi back to Queenstown Airport from the station shearing shed. This is slow travel through living history — join the trail and let the mountains, rivers, and horses carry you into it!
