From there, the trails of scenic Terelj National Park open into valleys, rivers, and rocky hills, shifting with every hour. The ride carries you through open grasslands and into forest edges, with a pause for a warm lunch before heading out again into the afternoon light.

Everything is simple and well-paced — a short drive from the city, steady horses, and guides who know the land. By evening, you’re back in Ulaanbaatar — join us and discover the quiet of the steppe for yourself!

Route details

The day begins with an 8:00 AM pick-up from your hotel, followed by a scenic drive to Gorkhi–Terelj National Park. At a local nomadic family’s home, you are welcomed with warm drinks and light snacks while meeting your guide and horse. After a short preparation and safety briefing, you start riding around 10:30 AM, crossing open grasslands, gentle hills, and riverside trails.

Around 1:00 PM, there is a break for lunch with hot drinks and time to rest. In the afternoon, around 2:30 PM, the ride continues along new paths, with changing light over the mountains. By about 5:00 PM, you return to the family’s home, where refreshments are served and you can watch the horses being unsaddled and released. After that, you drive back to Ulaanbaatar and are dropped off at your hotel.

Well what a surprise, I had a wonderful time too, despite the short duration of my stay! It provided me with a good glimpse into the life of Mongol/nomads. The team was well organized; the family team was hospitable, and I was impressed by the thoroughness and attention to detail of the business.It was the perfect introduction to Mongolia and horseback riding!
