Route details

Day 1
From Arena to Stars

Your Mexican riding adventure kicks off in Guanajuato's bullfighting arena, where you'll receive a briefing on the day's itinerary and some instructions. After familiarizing yourself with your horse, you'll set off on a ride that takes you through various parts of Guanajuato, including its underground tunnels and beautiful downtown area.

Once you cross the town, you'll take a short break by the Presa de la Olla reservoir. From there, you'll ascend a historic Camino Real that was once used to reach some of the state's oldest mines. The journey continues up the mountain known as Cerro del Santo Niño, which translates to "mountain of the holy child." After reaching the summit, you'll make your way down into a ravine on the other side.

This ravine, called "Las Playitas," will serve as your campsite for the night. By the time you arrive, the kitchen crew will have cold beer, tequila and appetizers ready for you. The evening can be spent relaxing around the campfire, savoring a delicious Mexican barbecue dinner, enjoying the company of friends—both old and new—and marveling at the stunning starry sky.

Tour provider's comments

3-6 hours riding daily.

No prior riding experience is required to join this adventure; what's essential is having a good level of fitness to handle the physical demands of the excursion. While it’s beginner-friendly, it also offers excitement and challenges for seasoned riders.

The horses used are a blend of American Quarter-horses and Mexican Mustangs. This combination is favored by cowboys in Mexico, as it combines the noble temperament and steadiness of the Quarter-horse with the muscular build and strong "cow-sense" of the Mustang, along with the rugged qualities of mountain horses.

The riding pace varies with the terrain. Most of the time, you’ll maintain a steady pace to cover more ground, but there will be plenty of scenic breaks along the way. You’ll also have numerous chances to gallop and even race at full speed at times.

Additionally, the Mexican charro saddle and tack share a similar structure to Western gear but feature unique detailing. Your knowledgeable guides, who are third and fourth generation cowboys, cattle ranchers, and skilled horsemen, will ensure a safe and enjoyable six days of riding.

Amazing!! The staff was super nice and made sure we felt safe and comfy during the ride. The horses were calm. Riding through downtown San Miguel was soooooo beautiful. And they even took us to this cliff for the BEST view of the city. It was totally incredible. I'd definitely recommend it.

This was the MOST FUN trail ride we have ever been on! As folks who love horses, we had an awesome time. The staff was super friendly, and the horses were so well-behaved and looked after. The scenery from up high was stunning, and the homemade meal was way better than anything we could get in town. Seriously, if you're unsure about going on this trip, JUST DO IT! We even brought along some friends who'd never been on a horse, and they loved it too!

I've been on a bunch of horseback rides before, but this one was hands down the best! I know my way around a saddle, but I brought along some family who are pretty new to riding. The horses were super well-behaved, and we all had a blast soaking in the stunning views of the canyon. Luckily, it was just us and the guides, so we got some personalized attention. June even snapped some awesome pics and videos for us! Plus, the lunch at the ranch was delicious with some killer views. Israel, our guide, was amazing. We learned a ton about the place! Overall, this was a top-notch experience. If you're ever in San Miguel, definitely book a trip with these guys!
