Riding attire such as riding trousers and jackets should be washed at 40 degrees Celsius or dry cleaned. 

Riding boots and hats, which cannot be washed or dry cleaned, must be cleaned and disinfected at least five days before arriving in Iceland. The Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority suggests using Virkon S disinfectant for this purpose. 

It is important to note that used leather gear like gloves, whips, saddles, bridles and chaps should not be brought into the country. These measures are necessary because Iceland is free from contagious animal diseases, and horses are not vaccinated, making them vulnerable to foreign infectious agents. Your cooperation in following these guidelines will help us protect Iceland's delicate ecosystem.

The Icelandic horse is most famous for its smooth four-beat gait called the tölt, which is incredibly comfortable for riders, especially on longer journeys, and is beautifully executed by the horse. Riding an Icelandic horse in its natural environment provides an authentic riding experience. The traditional way of traveling in Iceland involves herding free-running horses, with horses being changed at least once a day on longer trips, allowing riders to experience a variety of horses.

Known for its intelligence, good temperament and versatility, the Icelandic horse is the most colorful breed globally, boasting over 40 different colors and more than 100 variations. This breed stands out from others due to its mastery of five gaits: walk, trot, tölt, canter or gallop and flying pace.

The equipment used for Icelandic horses differs slightly from what is typically used for other breeds. The saddle resembles a dressage saddle with a flat seat and can have either a plain or quilted seat. A crupper is often used on longer rides to secure the saddle. The riding style for Icelandic horses is similar to English riding, but stirrups are worn at a longer length. Simple snaffle bits are commonly used, and bridles feature a detachable noseband and clip-on reins.

Our menu consists of a large breakfast and traditional Icelandic meals (fish or lamb). Vegetarian meals are available if requested when booking. All riders make their own packed lunch from the breakfast table.
