Only for experienced and physically fit hikers. Requires specific skills and equipment
Pace: Moderate, trots and canters.
Tack: The saddles are traditional Ecuadorian "Chagra" style and very comfortable, with a sheepskin cover and spacious saddlebags for a rain poncho and waterproof chaps. The horses are ridden with Pelham bits, but some have other styles or are ridden bitless, with bridles made from local leather/rawhide.
Horses: Most of the horses have been bred on the farm from mixed Criollo, Arab and draft horses. They are generally smaller in size but there are larger and smaller options available. These horses are sure-footed, controllable and some are even gaited.
Health: You should be fit and in good health, capable of riding long distances at high altitudes.
This trip is only suitable for riders who have previous experience and are physically capable, as there will be long days of riding lasting up to 7 hours. The terrain will be mountainous and at high altitudes, so riders should be prepared for a challenging ride.
