This Volcano ride trail leads you through Cotopaxi national park to witness the highest active volcano on Earth, towering at 5,987m. You will be directed by the recognizable symmetrical shape of Cotopaxi's cone while venturing into its neighboring hills and the enormous boulders of Ruminahui volcano, as well as the vast grasslands of the park.

The availability of all programs and schedules is subject to weather conditions. If unfavorable or unforeseen weather conditions arise, efforts will be made to offer comparable riding experiences. The team may adjust or alter the plans but will strive to provide a similar experience.

The provider speaks: English
I come from a long tradition of equestrian sports. My grandfather bred racing horses close to Quito and my father was a keen polo player. I followed in the same footsteps as a young man, horse-jumping and playing competitive polo. My three daughters are all keen riders, and the enthusiasm of the whole family is reflected in the quality of the horses at the family farm.

Tour provider's comments

Pace: Moderate, trots and canters.

Tack: The saddles are traditional Ecuadorian "Chagra" style and very comfortable, with a sheepskin cover and spacious saddlebags for a rain poncho and waterproof chaps. The horses are ridden with Pelham bits, but some have other styles or are ridden bitless, with bridles made from local leather/rawhide.

Horses: Most of the horses have been bred on the farm from mixed Criollo, Arab and draft horses. They are generally smaller in size but there are larger and smaller options available. These horses are sure-footed, controllable and some are even gaited.

Health: You should be fit and in good health, capable of riding long distances at high altitudes.
