Mandø Holiday

Besides the picturesque island of Rømø, visitors also have the opportunity to explore the island of Mandø. 

With only 35 residents, Mandø is very quiet in the winter. The island is home to an equestrian center with a small farm, offering plenty of opportunities to explore the nearby island on horseback. 

The exact start time for the ride cannot be determined until 1-2 days before due to the tide. In the morning, the horses are prepared and transported to Vester Vedstad, where they are unloaded, saddled and the adventure begins. 

The route is marked by trees in the seabed, guiding the horses through the water. This historic road is not suitable for cars as it is rarely completely dry. The ride takes you across moors, along the beach, and through Mandø's only settlement, Mandø City, before reaching the farm where you will spend two nights.

Today, you will have the opportunity to explore some of Denmark's most unique and untouched natural areas on horseback. At Koresand, you can witness precious gems, seals, a diverse bird population and enjoy the absence of tourists and cars. 

Koresand is a roughly 24 square kilometer sandbank located in the Wadden Sea southwest of Mandø, also known as the wet desert due to its expansive sandy terrain. Despite its increasing size each year, the area lacks vegetation or permanent dunes, as it remains submerged during storms. The vast expanse of flat sand offers a sense of boundless freedom as you walk, tolt and gallop, with uninterrupted views and no people in sight. This makes Koresand an ideal habitat for hundreds of seals and thousands of birds. 

After approximately 3,5 hours of riding, you will return to the farm.

Following breakfast, you will prepare the horses and embark on a journey across the seabed to Vester Vedsted. Initially, you will experience a delightful ride across the expansive beach before once again riding the sea floor, timing your passage with the tides. 

Upon returning to Rømø, transportation will be available to bring both you and the horses back to the stable and hotel. The weekend of riding has concluded, so consider planning for a longer stay next time. Departure is expected around 13:00.
