Discover one of Colombia's most fascinating horseback riding adventures as you travel through the historic Santander region, following ancient Royal Roads that played a key role in the country's fight for independence.

This extraordinary journey combines spectacular riding, breathtaking landscapes, colonial architecture, hidden mountain villages, waterfalls, rivers, and authentic rural culture. Riding through the birthplace of Colombian independence, you will explore places rarely visited by tourists while experiencing some of the country's most beautiful scenery.

The route culminates in the enchanting colonial town of Barichara, widely recognized as one of the most beautiful heritage towns in Colombia.

Designed for experienced riders, this expedition offers long riding days on carefully selected endurance horses, supported by professional guides, a dedicated support vehicle, and comfortable rural accommodations along the way.

Tour provider's comments

Our routes are considered difficult, ideal for experienced riders (strong intermediate and above) with good and demanding horses, suitable for several long journeys. Journeys vary between 6 to 9 hours on horseback.

Participants in any adventure activity as horseback riding, are active people and consequently candidates to suffer accidents. Hospitals will not be quickly available during part of the rides and rescues or evacuations may not be immediate.

The pace typically will be 50% walking, 30% trotting and 20% cantering, this can be the average for the Barichara ride, a bit faster for Villa de Leyva and a bit slower for Casanare.

We use mainly tertiary roads (sand and dirt) with little traffic and trails.
