Born and raised in Puerto Natales right outside of Torres del Paine National Park where I began working at age 14. Since then I have gained over 20 years of experience working and trekking in and around the park. One of very few gauchos that know the trails and terrain of this area in Patagonia. Spending time abroad in Canada and Australia I worked with horses and learned English. It was here that I exchanged cultures with people from other parts of the world. Following my travels, I returned to Patagonia where I established myself as a gaucho and an outdoorsmen. With my knowledge and expertise, I wish to share with people the real Patagonia through my eyes.

Tour provider's comments

You should be an experienced rider with at least five years of regular riding experience. You need to feel at ease navigating diverse terrains at various speeds.

Tack: The saddles used are called "cangallas," which are traditional gaucho saddles specific to this region. They are crafted for riding up and down mountains, ensuring the rider maintains balance and comfort during long hours in the saddle. Most of these saddles are handmade by gauchos using animal leather and sheepskin.

Horses: all Chilean Criollo. They roam freely year-round across vast expanses of pampas and grazing land. While they may be small in size, they are fit and strong, perfectly suited to the terrain you will encounter.

These Criollo horses descend from Spanish stock brought to South America by conquistadors, allowing them to adapt to the continent's challenging environments. They possess specialized musculature that enables them to sprint over short distances while having the endurance needed for remote mountainous regions. Their double coat provides excellent protection against rain; it is long and insulating in winter to guard against the cold, and short and shiny in summer, ensuring comfort in warmer weather. They are remarkably sure-footed on the rocky paths of the national park.

Health: A good level of physical fitness is important for this ride, as there may be sections that require hiking. Overall good health is also necessary since you will be visiting remote areas with limited access to medical facilities. Generally, altitude does not pose a problem for visitors to Patagonia, as the elevation remains relatively low (below 3000m).

It's important to know

What kind of food will be served?

Meals are typically Patagonian, crafted to keep you warm and energized for a full day of riding. The menu usually features a variety of meats, particularly lamb, as well as fish like salmon, which is readily available from the region's many clear rivers. Each meal generally includes beverages, such as a selection of soft drinks, a glass of wine, or a beer per person, with additional options available for purchase at a small extra charge.

Lunches are often simple sandwiches packed in a lunchbox that you take with you while riding.

Vegetarian options can be provided with prior notice, and we may also be able to accommodate other dietary needs—please confirm your requirements when booking to ensure they can be met.

    about provider
I had the incredible opportunity to join a 7-day horseback adventure with Osvaldo and Clementine in December. The process of booking and flying to Chile was quick and smooth. Although I anticipated an amazing experience, it exceeded all my expectations. This was truly one of the best horseback riding trips I've ever had. The horses were outstanding—well-trained and in excellent condition. Riding the same horse every day allowed us to build a strong connection with them. The accommodations were all stunning and comfortable, with the glamping experience being particularly memorable. It felt like a dream come true! The food was not only delicious but also plentiful. Each day presented new landscapes and awe-inspiring views. We encountered a variety of wildlife and experienced different terrains and weather conditions. The entire trip was impeccably organized, thanks to the hard work of Clementine, Osvaldo, and all our wonderful hosts. I’m already looking forward to my next visit.
