Thamalakane Holiday

Rise early to embark on a lengthy morning horseback ride. After a brief encounter with wildlife, we exit the reserve and venture into the rural countryside for a delightful ride through the expansive acacia woodlands, offering opportunities to jump fallen logs if desired.

Along the way, we will pass by cattle posts and gain insight into how the local Motswana community coexists with their vast herds of free-roaming cattle. As the day progresses, we make our way to the refreshing riverine woodlands of the Thamalakane River, where a delicious breakfast awaits under the shade of jackalberry trees.

After a satisfying meal, we leisurely ride along the river, observing various waterbirds and indulging in playful canters through the shallow waters. Following lunch at the lodge, enjoy a relaxing break before an afternoon stroll to the riverbank, where we board a boat for an afternoon of birdwatching, fishing and sunset drinks - a perfect end to the day!

Waking up early with the sunrise, enjoying breakfast, and then setting out on a full-day horseback ride to explore new areas, with the goal of reaching the point where the Thamalakane River divides into the Nhabe and Boteti rivers. These rivers were crucial for early explorers, hunters and traders to venture into the region. David Livingstone was the first European to see Lake Ngami after a challenging journey through the Kalahari desert to the Boteti River.

A picnic lunch is enjoyed under shady mangosteen trees, and some may be tempted to take a swim. Following the river back home, if water levels allow, there's a possibility of crossing the river and returning on the north bank, keeping an eye out for hippos becoming more active as the sun sets.

A last early morning ride through the reserve followed by a welcome hearty breakfast before heading on to your next exciting destination.
