Get ready for a unique horse riding vacation experience! The Makgadikgadi Salt pans undergo significant changes throughout the year. They transform into one of Africa's largest temporary wetlands, attracting a variety of wildlife and birds, such as flamingos and zebra. During this time, a large percentage of zebra from the South-eastern Okavango Delta migrate about 250km to the Makgadikgadi Pans, where they stay until March. The pans are filled with shallow water and nutrient-rich grass during this period.
The itinerary typically includes three nights at the luxurious Camp Kalahari, with the option for additional nights and a camping experience in the pans among wildlife and stars. Year-round highlights consist of viewing Africa's largest and most famous baobabs, interacting with habituated meerkats, and tracking with the local San people.
