Via Dinarica Trail

After breakfast, there will be an introduction to the horses and an evaluation of the riding skills of the group. Following this, we will saddle up for an easy morning ride lasting approximately two hours.

The main aim of this introductory ride is to become familiar with the horse that you will be riding throughout the week. Lunch will be served at the farm, after which we will head to Sarajevo for a guided two-hour walking tour, where you can learn all about the history of this beautiful city. Finally, we will have dinner at a local restaurant in Sarajevo.

Make sure that you have packed your bag, which will be transported in our trail support vehicle. We will depart in the morning after breakfast, heading northwest on a trail. The well-rested horses and flat sections will allow for a light trot or canter. As we continue downhill towards the Lepenica River, you will have the opportunity to ride through the shallow water and enjoy its waterfalls. For the next 15 kilometers, we will mainly walk and trot on forest paths, with a few Everglades. Take in the view and the calming sound of the mountain river Crna Rijeka (Black River).

We will stop for lunch and have fresh grilled trout. The sound of the Crna Rijeka will welcome a quick nap in the shade of the hammocks. In the late afternoon, we will arrive at our first accommodation, the Mountain Lodge Lopata. Here, we will have the opportunity to chat about our impressions while enjoying local culinary delights.

After having a good breakfast and a strong coffee, we will get ready to prepare the horses for the next part of our journey. The path will continue to incline and after we climb 1,324 meters, we will reach a high plateau that is situated at an altitude of 1,744 meters above sea level. We will move forward through forest paths and open glades, which have a gentle incline. As we cross the tree limit at 1,600 meters, the beautiful Bitovnja will come into view. The vast mountain pastures will invite us for a canter and gallop. The scenery is breathtaking and often looks as if we can see from one end of Bosnia to the other.

After riding for about 10 kilometers, we will reach our trail support car, where we will enjoy a well-deserved picnic in Bitovnja. Here, we will be served a hot traditional Bosnian dish of bean soup and sausages, which will be served on the spectacular high plains. After the picnic, we will continue through the vast pastures, which is certainly the most beautiful section of our adventure.

After a few hours of riding, we will leave Bitovnja behind us and descend down to our next overnight destination, the Mountain Lodge Pogorelica. We will have a well-deserved dinner and can summarize our impressions and plan for tomorrow.

We're all set to embark on an exciting adventure with our horses and riders, ready to take on a demanding 25-kilometer riding section. Our journey begins with a climb towards the towering Zec mountain, a rigorous three-hour trek, but well worth it. As we make our way up, we'll come across mountain pastures teeming with thousands of sheep, and we'll catch a glimpse of the shepherds' huts and sheep shelters in the valley below. As we ride along, we'll be surrounded by the natural beauty of the Zec mountain slopes, covered in a blanket of cranberries and blueberries.

If we're lucky enough to have a clear day, we'll even catch a glimpse of Sarajevo from our vantage point. We'll stop at a breathtaking viewpoint to indulge in a delicious saddle-bag picnic for lunch and let our horses graze. After an hour of rest, we'll continue on our journey towards our next destination - the mesmerizing Prokoško Lake.

Prokoško Lake is a sight to behold, with its stunning natural beauty that has earned it the nickname "the eye of the mountain" or “natural gem”. It's tucked away in the heart of the Vranica mountain range said to be the most beautiful tourist destination in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We'll find traditional shepherds' huts around the lake, built entirely of wooden logs, and it's in one of these cozy cabins where we'll spend the night.

As we bid adieu to the stunning sights of Prokoško Lake, we embark on a 3-4 hour journey that takes us through the charming village of Toveriste and leads us to the quaint town of Fojnica. But before we say goodbye to our noble steeds, we'll take a moment to enjoy a lovely picnic.

After our hearty lunch, we'll wrap up our riding adventure and head back to our Equestrian Center in the comfort of our cars. En route, we'll make a stop at a luxurious local spa to unwind and rejuvenate ourselves with a relaxing swim, sauna, steam room, and massage.

Feeling refreshed and re-energized, we'll head back to the farm for a delightful farewell dinner, reminiscing about the unforgettable memories we've made over the past week.

After breakfast you can say goodbye to the horses before being transferred to the airport, your accommodation in Sarajevo or to enjoy further tourist’s excursions provided by our partners.
