Quebrada de Humahuaca

We will have breakfast all together and, after that, riders will drive to the Ampascachi Equestrian Center La Casa de la Tradición or to the facilities of Capilla de San Pedro where we raise and keep our horses. 

We introduce you to the team members and then proceed to meet the horses. The connection between riders and horses is very important and today you have the opportunity to ride on different horses and choose the one you feel comfortable and safe on. 

After a 2-hour ride, we will enjoy a typical criollo lunch and then drive back to Salta. 

You have the afternoon free to either rest or go round the city until it is time for dinner at the hotel.

After an early breakfast at the hotel, our logistics team drives us to El Volcán where the horses are waiting for us and from where the trail tour starts today. 

We ride in wonderful landscapes full of colours and geographical diversity. Around midday we arrive in Tumbaya where we have a light lunch and then continue our tour. You will be amazed by the views over the famous seven-coloured rainbow hill, “Cerro de los Siete Colores” and the mountains of the Los Colorados pass that reflect the sunlight in all shades of red. 

In the evening, we reach El Porvenir. The transfer will drive us to Purmamarca where we have dinner and rest at the hotel.

After breakfast at the hotel, the transfer drives us back to El Porvenir from where we start the ride in direction Purmamarca. 

Around midday we arrive in Purmamarca where we enjoy regional food for lunch and have the opportunity to walk around this beautiful place. Purmamarca means Town of the Virgin Land in the Aimara language. This pre- historic little town was declared a National Historic Site. We visit the main square and the church, also a protected national monument with its particular architecture and the Cuzco paintings in the inside. We walk around the handicrafts market where we find traditional fabrics, ceramics and music instruments. 

At night we have dinner at the Casa de Piedra hotel, an outstanding colonial building, and go to rest to recover energies for the next day.

We have breakfast at the hotel and enjoy the wonderful views. The transfer brings us to Tumbaya, founded in the 18th century, where the horses are waiting for us. 

From there we start the trail into the mountains to the shrine of the Copacabana Virgin at over 3000 m above sea level. 

We rest and have a light lunch and keep riding until we reach Punta Corral, where the logistics team has already set up the camp. After dinner we go to sleep in the tents.

We have breakfast at the camp and continue our riding tour through dazzling landscapes breathing the clean mountain air. 

We ride on our Peruvian Paso horses on traditional trails that were part of important historic events. The scenery leaves us speechless. We have lunch at an abandoned ranch on the Punta Corral river banks where we can feel the wind and listen to the sounds of nature. 

After a break we continue until we reach the beautiful town Tilcara in the evening. We visit Pucará de Tilcara, an ancient fortress that was built in this strategic place 900 years ago. 

We have dinner and stay for the night at the Posada de Luz hotel.

We enjoy breakfast at the beautiful hotel surrounded by breathtaking scenery. Afterwards, we walk around Tilcara, an ancient town where the inhabitants still maintain old traditions alive and where the natives and Hispanic cultures coexisted during many years. 

It is not unusual to find monument to honour Pachamama (Mother Earth) set up next to colonial churches. We have lunch at a typical restaurant and afterwards, the locistics team drives us to Humahuaca, another beautiful town in the Quebrada de Humahuaca. 

In the evening, we will walk along Calle Balcarce, the most iconic street of Salta. There, we will enjoy a fabulous folkloric show while we have dinner in a typical restaurant. Local cuisine, excellent wine and good music. We spend the last night at the Almería hotel.
