Route details

Day 1
Northern Lights Ride and Sami Culture

The tour starts in the afternoon, with transfer from Kiruna. We drive out to our farm, 25 km west of Kiruna, towards Nikkaluokta and Kebnekaise.

At the farm we prepare the horses together and head out to the forest for a relaxing tour in easy pace. Our Icelandic horses are steady and know the route very well, even though it is dark outside. Hopefully the weather is clear, and we get to enjoy an amazing starry sky. With a bit of luck, we might spot the mythical northern lights

After the tour, a warm fire is waiting in our “Goahti” (tepee in sami). Around the fire we have dinner consisting of local specialities, while you get the chance to learn more about our life and the Sami culture.

Our Farm Houses

We are situated 25 kilometers west of Kiruna, in the direction of Nikkaluokta, offering a breathtaking view of the mountains and Kalix River. During winter, you can witness the mesmerizing northern lights, while in summer, you can experience the enchanting midnight sun. If you desire to live amidst nature, have the opportunity to spot animals like moose from your window, and enjoy tranquility, this is the perfect place for you.

At our horse farm, we have two houses available for rent. The first house features three bedrooms, a shared kitchen and two bathrooms, accommodating 1-6 people. The kitchen is fully equipped, and you can purchase your own groceries in Kiruna. The second house can accommodate 1-5 people and has one bathroom.

Additionally, we have a sauna located by the riverbank. You can take leisurely walks in the forest or on the river, go skiing, try the 'kick' (a traditional Swedish sled) or explore the surroundings with snowshoes. If you prefer not to cook, we provide the option to order meals from us. We also offer winter clothing rentals if needed, including overalls, hats, gloves and boots for SEK 150.

Additional services and prices:
- Sauna: SEK 200 per person (minimum 2 people)

Calm and peaceful. The setup was excellent, as we were responsible for preparing our designated horse. The facility was lovely and impeccably maintained. The horses were incredibly calm and safe. We enjoyed cozy coffee breaks with freshly brewed coffee over a campfire. Highly recommended experience.

    about provider
During a 4-day visit, comfortable stay in a cozy chalet (with 1 shared bathroom for 3 bedrooms) which is well-equipped and offers a range of activities such as snowmobiling, horseback riding during the day and at night (magical!) , visiting a reindeer herd to discover Sami culture and exploring the Icehotel. Also observed Elks without fear as they roam freely in the meadow with Icelandic ponies. The Northern Lights are a sight to behold, with their emerald green color appearing clearly in photos (see the photographers' explanations ;-).... The professional team at the chalet, led by Kerstin and Matti, provide excellent service and delicious homemade cuisine using local ingredients. This stay is perfect for nature lovers... who enjoy outdoor activities, animals, authenticity and simplicity! The Icelandic ponies are fantastic and calm and the environment is calm. The guests highly recommend this experience and hope to return to Lapponia to experience all eight seasons.

We had a great time on both the snowmobile tour and the horseriding tour with this team. Matte and Kirsten, the owners and operators of the tours, truly made our vacation special. Both trips were fantastic, and we had wonderful meals with them and other guests. It felt like we were part of a Swedish family. The farm is stunning, and we had an unforgettable experience. We can't wait to go back. These tours are a must!
