Today’s journey takes us to the crown jewel of our riding tour: the summit of the ‘Großlauch,’ standing tall at 1,800 meters. It promises to be a long and exhilarating day, so we begin with a quick breakfast before setting off.
We start by leading our horses downhill into the valley, pausing at a small stream where the horses can drink and rest briefly. From there, the ascent begins along rugged, stony mountain trails toward the iconic ‘Red Stone.’ Here, we enter the pristine Hasmas National Park.
After some steady riding, we stop for a well-deserved lunch break on a high mountain pasture. Both riders and horses refuel for the challenging climb ahead.
Back in the saddle, we traverse the picturesque high pastures of the ‘White Meadow,’ a stunning expanse named for its scattered white limestone formations. This idyllic setting lies at the heart of the Hasmas National Park, offering an untouched beauty that feels worlds away. In the summer months, shepherds and cowherds bring their animals here, adding to the pastoral charm. If luck is on our side, we may encounter the semi-wild Csango herd of horses, roaming freely across these vast, unspoiled meadows.
The lush pastures are perfect for a refreshing gallop, preparing us for the final climb to the summit. Guided by mountain paths known only to sheep and goats, we ascend higher and higher. As we approach the tree line, the dense spruce forest gives way to open, expansive views. When the forest ends, a breathtaking panorama unfolds: the tiny villages of the Csik Basin spread out below, and on clear days, the distant Fagarasch mountain range graces the horizon.
At the summit, standing at 1,800 meters, we take an extended break. It’s a well-earned moment of tranquility for both horse and rider amidst the grandeur of the mountains.
The descent begins with a careful lead back to the ‘White Meadow.’ After mounting up, we enjoy one last gallop to a natural spring, where the horses can drink and we replenish our water bottles with crisp, cool mountain water.
The return route takes us through the high pastures of ‘Tunseria,’ eventually descending once more into the valley. As the ranch nears, the horses sense home and find a renewed energy for the final stretch.
We arrive back at the farm via winding forest paths, greeted by the comforting sight of the gate. After unsaddling and caring for the horses, it’s time to relax. Whether you prefer the warmth of the sauna or a soothing soak in the hot tub, your muscles will thank you.
The day ends with a shared meal in the cozy log cabin, reminiscing about the unforgettable adventure.
Riding time: approximately 8 hours.
