The city of Kharkhorin, also known as Karakorum, served as the capital of the Great Mongolian Empire in the thirteenth century. It is situated on the right side of the Orkhon River, approximately 400 km southwest of Ulaanbaatar, which is Mongolia's current capital. In 1380, Karakorum was destroyed, but around two hundred years later, the founder of the Erdene Zuu Monastery, Avtai Khan, established his yurt on the same site. Kharkhorin offers numerous historical and sightseeing attractions. One such attraction is the Ilsen Tasarkhai sand dunes, which feature a stunning semi-desert landscape with large sand dunes. During our visit, we will enjoy lunch along the way and then be transported to our next accommodation with a local family in a traditional ger. Before dinner, there is an optional camel riding activity available. After our evening meal, we can take a hike around the sand dunes and possibly witness a breathtaking sunset in the area.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
