The highlands of Mexico, located between Mexico City and San Miguel Allende, are a hidden rural paradise. The Ranch, established by a Swiss woman who fell in love with the area and never left, served as my base and home away from home. The ranch caters to travelers from the U.S., Europe, and other parts of the world. I traveled solo from California to the ranch, where I felt safe and at ease. The ranch arranged for my pickup from the Mexico City airport, and there I met friendly visitors from Germany, England, and different parts of the U.S. Each morning, we were asked about our preferred activities for the day. Some days, I went horseback riding and then relaxed in the hot tub with a drink, admiring the waterfalls on the property. The ranch offers a Western movie-like experience when riding through the high desert terrain. I also indulged in a hot stone massage and took a day trip to San Miguel Allende, which is known for its artsy vibe and colonial-era charm. There are plenty of activities to choose from at the ranch, such as waterfall hikes, mountain biking, or simply unwinding by the pool with a good book. The package I purchased was all-inclusive, covering meals and drinks, with precautions taken to ensure the safety of the food and water. The owner's dedication to the ranch is evident in its design and the warm smiles of the local staff. For a truly relaxing experience, I recommend spending a week here, whether solo or with a group. If you enjoy exploring different locations, you can split your time between Mexico City, the ranch, and San Miguel Allende to experience the cultural richness of central Mexico.
