In August 2022, my boyfriend and I traveled to Kyrgyzstan, specifically Osh and the Allay heights, for a horseback riding trip in the mountains.
We picked Myrzabek's agency because we preferred a small group, and it turned out to be a stroke of luck! It was just us, our English-speaking guide, and the horse handlers.
Our guide, Abdulkadyr, was incredibly friendly and welcoming. On our first day, he even took us on an impromptu trip to Jalal-Abad, his hometown.
The horse trek itself was ABSOLUTELY incredible. But let me tell you, crossing the Alay Mountains is no walk in the park. It's rough terrain, so definitely not an easy ride. The horses were amazing though, they kept steady even on the trickiest paths. And the views? Absolutely breathtaking.
The people we met in the yurt camps and guesthouses were so welcoming, especially the kids who were super curious and friendly.
By a stroke of luck, we found ourselves near the Pamir Mountains during the annual Too Mountain festival. Abdulkadyr helped us rearrange our plans so we could attend, even though it mostly rained. But hey, you can't control the weather, right?
If you're planning a trip like this, make sure to give yourself plenty of time. Trust me, you don't want to rush through these mountains. It's a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
Overall, it was a trip we'll never forget. But beware, once you're in those mountains, you might not want to leave!
