Charyn Canyon, 154 km long and situated 195 km east of Almaty near China's border, is part of Charyn National Park. It boasts steep mountains up to 300 m tall, notably the Valley of Castles, featuring a unique grove of Sogdian ash, a relic species. Kolsay Lakes, nestled at 2250 and 2700 meters, offer a stunning natural landscape with rare flora and fauna, while Lake Kaindy, formed in 1911 after an earthquake, is known for its cold temperatures and birch trees submerged due to a landslide-formed dam.

Route details

Early breakfast at the hotel and departure.

Trip to Charyn canyon. The canyon has been described as the Grand canyon’s little brother and is considered to be the floor of the ancient ocean Tethys. The erosion made by the river Charyn below and the elements created a dramatic and impressive landscape.

Lunch.

Right after the break we wil be exploring the Valley of Castles and canyon. Expect some great hiking.
Free time and moving to Karabulak.

17:00 arrival to Karabulak village settled just 25 km from Kolsay lake and 20 km from Kaindy lake. You will stay at a cozy local family owned guesthouse.

For dinner you will have a homemade traditional cuisine. You will also learn how to make dough for Baursak. Baursak is a certain type of bread typical for Turk people; it looks like a small deep-fried donut. The Baursak can be served as the dessert or accompany the main course.

It's important to know

In case of booking cancellation the next policy applies. Tourists will receive a full amount they paid for the reservation in case they cancel more than 35 days in advance of the tour start date. In the event of cancellation within the period of 34 to 16 days before the tour start date - they are entitled to receive 50% of the booking amount. Cancelations made within 15 days before the tour starts will not be entitled to a refund.
