Experience the variety and beauty of Icelandic nature. We start in the lush district of Fljótshlíd, the setting of one of the Icelandic Sagas. From there we ride into Thórsmörk, one of the most beautiful valleys in Iceland, which is only accessible by crossing glacial rivers. We spend a night surrounded by green forests, volcanic mountains and glaciers before continuing along the foot of Eyjafjallajökull volcano. We also visit the impressive canyon Stakkholtsgjá and stop at Seljalandsfoss waterfall.

This tour gives an amazing opportunity to experience the diversity of the Icelandic horses in its natural environment, far from civilization, and how Icelanders travelled in the old days with a herd of free-running horses. Every rider gets the chance to try 2 or 3 different horses each day, which develops riding skills.

Tour provider's comments

This tour requires basic riding skills with a secure, balanced seat and a good physical condition. We ride up to 35 km per day mostly in the gait tölt and take a herd of free-running horses with us part of the tour, which requires a certain speed.

This ride was my first activity in Iceland and turned out to be a great start! The staff is very well prepared and the horses are very easy to ride - especially the tölt which was fun to try! We got on the horses right away and spent almost the whole duration riding. That was great!

    about provider
The establishment was well-structured and professional, with guides who were friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable. The horses were charming and impeccably behaved. Among our group, three members possessed considerable riding expertise, while one had limited experience. Nonetheless, our guide adeptly matched our mounts to our respective skill levels and adjusted the difficulty of the ride accordingly, ensuring a delightful experience for all. Even our less experienced rider found the tolt technique comfortable and enjoyable. The excursion lasted 1.5 hours, meandering through picturesque countryside, encompassing a serene river crossing, and offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers. We delighted in spotting whooper swans and ravens during our journey. Our guide also stopped for photos of us on horseback. Riding the Icelandic Horse was truly a pleasure, the team ensured it was so enjoyable. Thank you for a lovely equine experience on our trip to Iceland.

It was an amazing experience! Anna made it perfect! We did the horse riding first and went to the hot springs after. It was just wonderful!
