The Volcano Ride

Riding clothes (such as trousers, jackets, etc.) must be washed at 40°C or dry-cleaned. Items that cannot be washed or dry-cleaned — such as riding boots or riding helmets — must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected at least 5 days prior to arrival in Iceland. The Icelandic Veterinary Authority recommends using the broad-spectrum disinfectant Virkon S for this purpose. Please note: Used leather gear, including gloves, whips, saddles, bridles, and chaps, is not allowed into the country under any circumstances. 

The most important thing is to wear something you find comfortable for riding. We recommend high riding boots with a heel, but it is fine if you only have low ones — or none at all. Be sure to bring more than one pair of comfortable shoes to change into in case your feet get wet — for example, hiking shoes, rubber boots, or riding boots.
