Autumn Colours and Northern Lights

Following breakfast, we harness the horses and prepare for a ride to the entrance of the Fjörður peninsula and around the Höfði mountain. We take in the stunning view of Eyjafjörður, Iceland's longest fjord, and may even have the chance to spot some whales, as they have been seen in the fjord until October. The ride lasts for about 4 hours. 

Upon returning to the farm, we are treated to coffee and cakes. Dinner and an overnight stay will be provided at the farm.

Riding: 4 - 5 hours

In the morning, we'll head out from Grenivík for a whale watching excursion. After having coffee, we'll journey to the fishing village of Grenivik and then continue along the coast of Látrarströnd. During our ride, we'll pass by steep cliffs, lush meadows, clear streams and impressive valleys. Our break will be near the ruins of the farmhouse Svínarnes, which hold memories of the past. This area is where the farmers' young horses spend the summer before returning to their home meadows as the autumn colors signal the upcoming winter. We'll then retrace our steps back to the farm.

After four hours of riding, we'll return to our farm. Dinner and overnight accommodations will be provided at the farm.

Riding: 4 - 5 hours

After we finish breakfast, we will travel into the valley of the river Fnjóská. The mountains on both sides of the river reach heights of up to 1000 meters. We will ride along the southern side of the valley, passing murmuring brooks, mossy hills and small forests with autumn colors. Flocks of cackling geese are gathered at the riverbank, preparing for their migration south for the winter. They will return to Iceland in the spring when the days become longer. After a lunch break in the valley, we will head back to the farm.

Following a coffee break, we will drive to the well-known Goðafoss waterfall, which played a significant role in the Christianization of Iceland. This majestic waterfall is one of the most beautiful in Iceland. We will have dinner and spend the night at our farm.

Riding: 4 - 6 hours

Today, we'll journey to the mountains, aiming for the mountain hut Gil at the end of Trölladalur valley. At the peak of Leirðalsheiði, we'll enjoy a breathtaking view of Hvalvatnsfjörður fjord and the expansive polar sea. Following dinner, there will be an opportunity to take a stroll under the starry sky, with hopes of catching a glimpse of the mesmerizing northern lights. This unique experience offers a chance to escape from civilization and the bright city lights. We'll have dinner and spend the night at the mountain hut Gil.

Riding: 4 - 6 hours

Following breakfast, we mount our horses once more and depart from this picturesque location to return to our farmhouse. Along the way, we will encounter numerous sheep that have been grazing in the mountains throughout the summer. They are making their way back home, anticipating the impending snowfall. Similar to the previous day, we ride for approximately four to five hours.

Upon returning to the farm, we are treated to coffee and cakes. Last dinner and an overnight stay will be provided at the farm.

Breakfast and transfer back to Akureyri.
