Day 1
Enchanting Arrival in Villa de Leyva

Feel the thrill of anticipation as we pick you up from your hotel in Bogota in the morning, embarking on a scenic 4-hour car drive to a charming hotel outside Villa de Leyva. Amidst Colombia’s serene beauty, this enchanting place becomes our home for the adventure. Before settling in, you'll enjoy a delightful lunch at a local restaurant in Villa de Leyva, where regional flavors tantalize your taste buds.

After the meal, you have the option to explore the quaint town or venture on an invigorating 1 or 2-hour hike. Every step through cobblestone streets and scenic trails immerses you in the essence of the past, preserving colonial memories and Spanish influence. Founded in 1572, the town’s Spanish architectural style evokes an emotional encounter between the New World and the charms of Spain.

Each day holds new possibilities, with sunrises leading to exhilarating horseback rides and more. Carefully crafted moments leave indelible marks on your heart. After a day filled with excitement, we’ll return to the hotel around 5:00 p.m., just as the sun begins to set, casting a warm glow over the landscape.

When my friend suggested we go horseback riding, I was skeptical at first. Mainly because I had ridden horses many times and in many different countries, and initially, it didn’t seem that different from my past experiences. However, this was an experience unlike any other. First, it wasn’t a boring trail where the horses just follow one another. No, this was real horseback riding in the Colombian countryside. The views were breathtaking, and we even rode up mountainous terrains! Second, the horses gallop a little differently, so it’s a new (and FUN) experience in that aspect as well. Finally, because the tour is more intimate, you really get to enjoy it at your own pace. It’s like a personal horseback riding adventure. Bonus: You will get some beautiful photos and videos for social media if that’s your thing. If you are in Bogotá and want to experience a different side of Colombia, then book this tour! Our host, Hernando, was amazing. He was knowledgeable, fun, and his passion makes the tour a must-do. I would totally do this again!

We enjoyed incredible riding, delicious food, and stimulating discussions with a very professional host. I worked with Hernando to customize the perfect three-day, two-night trip for my husband and myself during our honeymoon in Colombia. He was incredibly responsive and professional throughout the weeks and months leading up to our trip. The trip itself was an amazing experience and is highly recommended for anyone serious about horses. The ride was exhilarating, maintaining a fast pace through the beautiful countryside and rural roads. The horses and the ride were not the usual nose-to-tail type. As mentioned in many other posts, there was a lot of cantering as well as creek crossings. The ride provided a unique way to see rural Colombia, as you pass through homes and workshops. The hospitality and food were also quite delightful. Hernando himself is a treat to converse with; he is very knowledgeable across many topics and is a great resource for learning more about Colombia.

We are a family of three experienced riders, and we wanted an experience where we could enjoy the outdoors, horses, and ride (canter) in a style fitting our riding level. Hernando was amazing—friendly and very easy to communicate with in English (though two out of the three of us are fluent). The countryside was beautiful, and we learned a lot. Hernando provided snacks and water, and we stopped in a small town for a break and a drink. Afterwards, we had a great meal in a small town. I highly recommend this experience. He will pick you up and has a lot of information about Bogotá itself.
