The expedition offers a journey through a variety of landscapes, showcasing the vertical scale of the Victorian High Country. It begins in the fertile valley of the Kiewa River and leads through ferny mountain forests to a picturesque streamside camp. The next morning, amidst campfire smoke and morning mists, we are ready to ride up into the high alps.
As the expedition progresses, it goes from lush temperate rainforest to snow gum woodlands and eventually to the open herb fields of the High Plains. The vast blue ridges, veiled in eucalyptus vapors, extend to the horizon across hundreds of kilometers. The journey continues to unveil new landscapes, heritage tracks and distant views of surrounding mountains. The expedition culminates in a camp within the tree-line on Mount Bogong, Victoria’s highest mountain. On the final day, participants ascend to the highest point accessible by horse in Australia, with Spring Spur nestled in the valley below serving as the day's end destination.
