Tour provider's comments

This tour is considered to have a medium difficulty level. A basic knowledge of horse riding is required along with a good condition of health is necessary. The terrain of our route is varied but is dominated by long flat beaches. There are sections of peatland (turba) where it is often necessary to dismount and walk on foot. Additionally, there are areas of and grassy meadows, dense forest and occasionally we pass along cliff edges. There are four main rivers which we pass during low tide. Our daily schedule is dictated by the Atlantic tide.

It's important to know

Personal equipment you need for the tour

Warm and waterproof outdoor clothing is crucial for your comfort during the expedition. Layers of clothing are most important and convenient due to changing weather conditions.
Based on our experience, the following equipment is needed:

For Accommodation:
• Sleeping Bag. Bag with a comfort temperature level of at least -10 °C (minus).

During the ride:
• Footwear: 2 pairs of shoes.
• Waterproof leather boots or trekking shoes. Please note that footwear should be comfortable both for riding and walking.
• Lightweight Sneakers are perfect for the evening time.
• At Least 5 pairs of socks. In case your shoes get wet during river crossings.
• Thermal Underwear (Tops and Leggings), 2 sets. Cotton is not recommended as it absorbs moisture and is difficult to dry.
• Pants. Waterproof/lightweight trekking trousers.
• Waterproof/windproof hooded jacket.
• Additional warm Llayers (i.e., Soft-Shell, Fleece) are advised. Lightweight jackets for camping are ideal.
• Gloves (at least 2 pairs), preferably waterproof.
• Warm cap.
• Riding helmet.
• Sunglasses.
• Thermal neck scarf (buff).
• Head-Lamp.
• Cosmetics – including sunblock, wet tissues, and toilet paper for personal use during riding.
• Paper copy of ID Card/Passport.
• Nylon or waterproof bags to secure your personal items (35L maximum).
• Small thermos (0.5L – 1L) or water flask for personal use.

The above list is ideal to keep you comfortable, as the most important point is to stay dry and warm during the expedition. Please avoid the use of plastic ponchos due to windy conditions (however, an oilskin coat could be a good idea).

ADITIONAL PERSONAL EQUIPMENT TO CONSIDER:

• Camera with spare batteries.
• Power-bank.
• Towel - microfiber/quick dry.
• Any personal medications that you normally use in similar situations.
• Small amount of cash.
• Eye-mask.
• Ear-plugs.
• Portable/foldable backpack (5L approx. for short trekking).

Please avoid taking too many unnecessary items as there is not a lot of space for luggage.
Each client, will be provided with bags for the equipment listed above. Please refer to the next section.

This was one of the best horseback riding experiences ever! It's not for the faint-hearted, though! You ride on very steep and slippery terrain, right along some sheer cliffs by the sea, making the whole experience both magnificent and a bit scary 😊
