Route details
Transfer from Mendoza to Historic Manzano, a distance of 130 kilometers.
Upon arrival, you'll be welcomed and introduced to the team of guides and *baqueanos* who will accompany you on this remarkable horseback adventure.
Each participant will be assigned a *sillero* horse, and the exciting journey begins. The first stop is the Portinari Refuge, where customs formalities and registration are completed with the National Gendarmerie.
Around noon, a packed lunch will be provided. In the afternoon, you’ll reach Las Yaretas camp, situated at 3,600 meters. There, we’ll set up camp for the night in the mountains, followed by dinner around the stove.
A specific riding skill is NOT necessary to realize the Andes crossing on horseback, you don’t need any previous instruction or practice.
Horseback riding trips have been designed for all members of the public (expert or beginner). The horses are tame and calm and they are used to mountainous paths.
The difficulty is given to the conditions that the mountain shows. The path is irregular and narrow in some sections. The activity is hard for geographical and weather difficulties. It’s possible to find high temperatures, winds, snow, sun, rain, and other inclement weather. You must be strong to cross all these situations and the lack of everyday conveniences.
The days vary between 6 and 8 hours on horseback. The maximum altitude above sea level reached 4500 meters.
Accommodation
You will be accommodated in camping tents for the first 4 nights and 1 night in a complex of cabins in Cajon del Maipo.
The places you go through are inhabited and wild, far from any kind of civilization. During the trip, you won’t find any bathrooms or refuges.
The campsites will be set up in a place protected by the wind and where you will find streams from melted snow and crystalline water, pure and very cold, and small springs called.

- JJulian28 Sep, 2024about providerWe went on a 3-day horseback expedition with Pablo and Roque, and it was an unforgettable experience. We were fortunate to spend a whole day trekking through the snow, and the guys gave us an authentic gaucho experience, complete with stories, music by the fire, and a delicious Asado. Pablo and Roque are true professionals, with extensive knowledge of the area, and the horses were exceptionally well looked after. Thanks again for the amazing adventure, hermanos!28 Sep, 20241 more photo
- CChen-Yun16 Feb, 2024about providerOur group had an incredible time. Our guide, Rodolfo, along with Christian, Roque, and Gabriel, were incredibly helpful and kind. I especially loved seeing them care for the horses after each day's ride, letting them roam freely in the mountains. There's something truly refreshing about watching the horses run wild in nature. The experience was unforgettable, and it's a memory I will cherish forever. Thank you so much for all your hard work!16 Feb, 20245 more photos
